Ghostwood Down
“The people cannot be healed until the land is healed. The land cannot be healed until the people are healed by the land”
Ghostwood Down is 27 acres of regenerating downland on the edges of the city of Bath in the West of England and is home for Becoming Crew on-land offerings.
We are the main tenant, guardian and steward of the land working with our partners and landowner Radici Farm.
The land at Ghostwood is slowly coming back to life after years of animal grazing, it is magical land and we feel very held and welcome by the life there.
Trees are central to the regeneration story at Ghostwood Down.
We are slowly restoring hedgerows, increasing woodland and wetland areas and witnessing a rapid increase in biodiversity.
We are planning new zones for fruit and nut orchards, a herb garden, coppice planting and agroforestry demonstrations.
As well as a strong focus on natural regeneration of our native trees on the land and with our tree nursery partner.
And it’s also here where we host our on-land action learning offerings.
Working with small groups in deep ways.
Helping folks re-connect, process, heal, imagine and deepen their understanding of regeneration, the inner and outer dance between knowing and action and to better understand the entanglement between humans and the rest of more-than-human nature.
The practices we work with here of sitting in council, deep listening, nature solos, nature based rites of passage and peer learning are foundational for the work we are doing with the land regeneration and restoration and supporting people to become ecologically literate, active participants in the wider regeneration of land, communities and culture.
Our vision is for Ghostwood to become a demonstrator site of intergenerational regeneration - human and more- than-human.
We are proud to be part of the bio-regional movement We Are Avon, with streams and springs on the land which feed, lead and connect to the River Avon.
